On location in Mexico City for “Total Recall,” I was shooting both on-set and off-set material for the film. I was warned that Schwarzenegger is very difficult—that he knows when a photographer has gotten the image, and that he hates for a photographer to say, “just one more shot.” OK by me. Armed with that bit of information, I immediately thanked him and excused him from “my set.” He was surprised but pleased. How about a few more he suggested. Sure! He told me about his idea for the ad art and the exact lighting he wanted on his face. We worked for quite a bit longer, and among the many images taken during this part of the session this gentle heroic portrait was my favorite.
