ORSON WELLES Hollywood 1981
This rather fierce portrait came out of a photo session for the cover of Los Angeles magazine. Ground Rules: 15 minutes only. Location had to be at Ma Maison 15 minutes before his standing reservation for lunch. I have always found ground rules like this to be a challenge (and it became great practice for photographing heads of state!). I got there hours early to set up my studio upstairs in one of the private spaces, and took as many Polaroids as possible trying to perfect the light on a massively overweight presence which wasn't present. I met his rules and was rewarded with an invitation to be his guest at lunch.
