I have seen some lovely photographs of Joan Didion, notably those happy fresh images her daughter Quintana Roo took. Somehow the dynamic between us always produced a slightly awkward but honest look into the mind of an artist. I responded to the various levels of fear and focus that she would offer me. I feel I was her Grant Wood finding the American Gothic in her soul.
